Larry Bernert, III, CFA

Larry Bernert is a Senior Managing Director at Clearstead, where he supports families, institutions, and nonprofit organizations with investment strategy, portfolio construction, and long-term financial stewardship. He has been working in the investment advisory industry since 1995 and joined Clearstead in 2024.

Larry brings expertise in fiduciary oversight, investment strategy, and portfolio management. Before joining Clearstead, he served as Senior Managing Director at Wilbanks Smith & Thomas Asset Management, LLC (“WST”) until it was acquired by Clearstead. Throughout his career, Larry has led investment initiatives and served in key fiduciary roles for both public and private entities.

Larry obtained his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Virginia with additional study at Cambridge University, his Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Larry currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Retirement System, Chair of the Investment Committee and Board Member at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, and Trustee of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. He has previously served as Chair of the Norfolk Employees Retirement System, Trustee and Investment Committee Chair at Norfolk Academy, and Board Member of the Economic Development Authority of the City of Norfolk.
